What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) are useful for treating various health conditions. They are a good addition to your current health regimen. In addition to acupuncture, the TCM modalities I use may include moxibustion, electric stimulation, nutritional counselling, and lifestyle tweaks, but are not limited to these.

The number of treatments that you need will depend on many different factors. Every body and every condition is different. In many cases, chronic issues will take longer to treat than acute or recent issues. We will discuss a plan during your first visit.

Frequently Asked acupuncture Questions

During your initial assessment, we’ll begin by discussing your health history and symptoms. My aim is to have a clear understanding of your treatment goals. If you’ve never had acupuncture, I will then explain what a treatment looks like. If you have any questions, I’ll take the time to answer them to make sure you’re comfortable before beginning the treatment.

Your treatment is meant to be comfortable and relaxing. I will offer you a heating pad if you get cold easily. Soothing music will be provided. To begin, I’ll insert the small needles in various areas around your body. You may feel a pinch as needles go in, but that sensation will wear off after a second or two. Then, I’ll ensure that you’re comfortable.

You will have the chance to rest while the treatment takes effect. Some people choose to nap, while others like to meditate or focus on their breathing. This part of the treatment usually lasts about 30 minutes.

After removing the needles, we’ll discuss a treatment plan to help you meet your health goals. If you would like to move along your treatment plan faster, I can recommend easy steps for you to take at home.

Every acupuncturist has a different treatment style. There’s no clear cut answer to this question. Your best bet is to find an acupuncturist near you whose philosophy resonates with you.
